Verdict
This is a great piece. Snap it up. You can't buy anything remotely close to this secretary/chair set brand new. First, you'd get ripped off; second, a new piece won't have this warm quality. The sycamore and green leather interior of the secretary is an elegant counterpoint to the dark rosewood exterior of the piece.
Interior designer Irwin Weiner ASID recently met Herve Conjeaud as he was selecting an art deco console for a client on Central Park West. Herve, a good-looking 6' 4" Frenchman living in Greenpoint, took Irwin and his clients to his nondescript Brooklyn warehouse, and they discovered a treasure trove of fine French furniture. It's amazing what a great eye - provided by Herve and his Paris-based partner Jean-Marie Chappey - and some refreshing of the wood finish can do; the result: an exquisite French antique inventory in a hidden warehouse!
