Irwin Weiner ASID - Awards are oftentimes a silly exercise in mob voting, but I admire the way Wallpaper* Magazine showcases top designers from a variety of fields who select The Judges Awards in all areas of design. Villa Metamorphosis in Woodstock, NY (see photo above), captured one of the judges' fancies and she or he chose a beautifully designed, sculptural home that functions as art in the woods. The design duo has wide roots in design – Barber studied interior design and Osgerby furniture and industrial design in undergrad. They both finished their graduate work in architecture from theRoyal College of Artin London and quickly became immersed in the design of furniture and accessories.
Starting with their first success, the Loop Table (see photo above), Barber and Osgerby recount the origins of their designs and the development from idea to manufactured product. The book traces by theme the inspiration behind each of their successful designs. Included are preliminary sketches, models, and snapshots of works in progress. Many of their furniture and product designs have subsequently been produced by international companies such as Cappellini, Vitra, and Sony.

Irwin Weiner ASID - Cabin fever is setting in - I who am more used to my native, sunny Cape Town than frosty Manhattan - so I naturally gravitate towards warm-weather videos for design inspiration these days. And who wouldn't! We all loved this Traditional Home video, with their lucky style editor, Krissa Rossbund, staying in the fabulous Royal Hawaiianresort. It's been refurbished for the umpteenth time since the "Pink Palace" first opened its doors in 1927 - in the grandeur of Rudolph Valentino, no less. The handcrafted furniture and colorful island quilts in their upgraded Royal Beach Tower is the height of classic sophistication.
