Irwin Weiner ASID - I come from South Africa, as our D2S readers know, and grew up in the small Jewish community in Cape Town. Hanukkah (or Chanukah) was never a big occasion, being a relatively minor religious holiday, but here in the States, it's become an alternative to Christmas festivities - a No Child Left Behind program for the holiday season. Wish List: Bath Goods from KontextÜr

Irwin Weiner ASID - Product designer Kenneth Schiller is out to revolutionize the design of everyday bathroom objects. His goal is to eliminate kitsch and replace it with well-designed, contemporary creations. Bravo, Mr. Schiller! His company, Kontextür, is on to something niche-driven ... and I admire people with a higher design mission. Why not make a better tissue box holder or shower curtain? Wish List: Design and Style Books from Assouline Publishing

Irwin Weiner ASID - I think everyone with style loves to indulge in the ultimate "designer porn," looking through the pages of a beautiful coffee table book that covers sumptuous design themes. That's why I'm putting Assouline Publishing on my Wish List this year. First off, they assert that "Assouline is more than a publisher. It's a lifestyle brand." Well, excuse me. They produce content on printed pages bound by two covers and a spine; that's a publisher. But I get their meaning. Their book content is swoon-worthy, to be sure, and I've selected some titles that will look good under any design-lover's tree. Wish List: Modulightor Lighting

Irwin Weiner ASID - Modernist architect and designer Paul Rudolph created the glamorous and amazing Modulightor Building in NYC, and if you haven't visited it or the Rudolph apartment above the lighting showrooms, you're in for a big treat. Make it a must-see stop as part of your design education. I just took an older Modulightor chandelier fixture - gorgeous! - into the showroom to be rewired for my own kitchen remodeling project in Bucks County. (It will be the showstopper design element in the entire room!), and while there, I was reminded of their great range of lighting. And it was this company, I believe, that revolutionized the way we use lighting today in decorative and utilitarian applications.
