HGTV Gives Away a Green Home
Those of you who dream of living in an eco-friendly home and easing your impact on planet earth, HGTV has the perfect house for you. This year's green house giveaway is a green home located in Denver, Colorado. The city's vistas of endless blue sky and snow-topped mountains provide a fitting backdrop for the environmentally-conscious new construction.
Some of the green features is a roof lined with photo-voltaic panels that provide 75% of the house's energy and exterior walls wrapped in recycled-cellulose insulation, preventing heat loss. The surrounding gardens also adopted green practices - using drip-irrigation method of watering the plants - water is targeted at the roots rather than the atmosphere. Sensors also shut off the system during rainy weather.
The interior rooms are painted in Sherwin-Williams' Harmony paint line that have zero-VOC (volatile-organic compounds) emissions.Interior designer Linda Woodrum chose the chic and contemporary style to complement the edgy modern architecture.
Even the laundry room above gets special treatment. Woodrum created an all-purpose room that's close to the kitchen where the owner can keep a close eye on kids and laundry. The laundry room has desk areas for studying as well as a lounge area for relaxing. And the washer/dryer disappears with a swing of double doors and the laundry room transforms to a family room!
Woodrum continues the eco-friendly approach by using organic bed linens. The elaborate wood-grid headboard uses locally sourced beetle-kill pine. Other accessories use reclaimed woods such as the wooden sculpture and the mirror.
HGTV's green home giveaway is not only green and earth-friendly but it will provide the future homeowner with a serene, elegant home and many time-saving practical conveniences. This homeowner could be you! Join HGTV's contest!
