Berkeley Plantation

What's a Trippy?

It's a short visual trip to places of architectural or design importance.

Where are we going?

Berkeley Plantation in Charles City, Virginia

What's to see?

Berkeley is probably the most historic plantation complex in the state of Virginia. It's considered to be the site of the first Thanksgiving celebration, in 1619. It was the birthplace of Benjamin Harrison, signer of the Declaration of Independence, and President William Henry Harrison, the ninth U.S. president, whose grandson Benjamin became the 23rd president. It's an architectual marvel, a very beautiful Georgian mansion built in 1726. Visit the plantation for a First Thanksgiving Celebration, see the rare period antiques in the main house, and tour the magnificent grounds, including five terraces of restored boxwood and flower gardens overlooking farmlands and the James River. Some even think Berkeley Plantation is haunted (read all about it on Haunted Houses.com).
