Design Video: Special Window and Door Features in Modern Japanese House

Irwin Weiner ASID - It doesn't take me long to begin my New Year's Resolution to present more smart ideas for home architecture while 2012 is still with us! I came across this great Japanese house, designed by Shigeru BAN Architects, backing onto Hanegi Park in Tokyo, and admired its sliding windows, expanses of glasses for adding plenty of natural light, and large doors that open into the park and natural views. It's not a stretch to say that U.S. homes should try to use more innovation with custom window and door products. Video Tour - Luxury Japanese Vacation Ski Home for Sale

Irwin Weiner ASID - With snow falling throughout Canada and the Midwest, my thoughts turned to skiing - which I don't do! - for some bizarre reason. And I found the perfect home tour video to go with my extreme winter sports musings. Home Design Video: Vintage Collectibles in Tokyo

Irwin Weiner ASID - When I was still in South Africa, I worked with my mother in our own antiques store in Cape Town. It was great fun, and I helped her source beautiful objects, particularly English silver and furniture. In my interior design work, I carry that love of antiques into my clients' projects, and that's why I was particularly interested in today's featured video, showcasing a small 1920s wood frame house in the heart of Tokyo, Japan that sells carefully selected antiques and collectibles based on periods of time. You'll like the story of the two different shops, one downstairs and one upstairs, and you'll come away with an appreciation for the collector's eye. I dare say that this video might give you the bug to go to flea markets and antique stores this weekend, which is always an enjoyable way to add layers of interest and storytelling to your home decor.

Handmade Goods Elevate Design Beyond the Ordinary

Irwin Weiner ASID - It's not a rarity to find a young, talented, good-looking interior designer shooting a professional video like the one we're featuring today - but I'll be darned if the video only identifies him as "Andrew," a bohemian, globetrotting interior designer who spans the gap between everyday-yet-exotic handcrafted products and multi-million-dollar interiors.
