January Is Traditionally the Month to Refresh Your Towels

Irwin Weiner ASID - There are still January White Sales, with bedding and bath linens going on sale during the month, but it's not such an obsession any more with homeowners. I kind of, sort of wish it were, and I'm speaking for myself and my family, too ... in a wistful kind of way. It was nice to have an annual "trigger" or prompt to get us to change out something in our homes.

Fresh bedding and bath towels are a great way to add a necessary jolt to a bedroom and bath - but today, I'm obsessed with bath towels! Here are some of my favorites, and perhaps this post will prod me into action this year. Replace some fading, fraying towels with fresh ones. Click on each photo for more product information.

Debut of Zaha Hadid Architects New Roca London Gallery

Irwin Weiner ASID - What better way to communicate to the public and the trade that your bathroom brand is sculptural, contemporary, and luxurious than to have Zaha Hadid Architects design your new showrooms? That's exactly what Roca did with their new Roca London Gallery, the third project built in London by Ms. Hadid and her organization. Here is how she describes it.

Our work imbues architecture with the intricacy and beauty of natural forms. Using a formal language derived from the movement of water, the Roca London Gallery has been eroded and polished by fluidity, generating a sequence of dynamic spaces carved from this fascinating interplay between architecture and nature.

The space is not only going to be used to display Roca's product lines, which match the sculptural functionality of their new gallery space; this will become a place for many public activities, including meetings, conferences, receptions, seminars, and exhibitions that will afford the public a wider use and appreciation of this thoughtful creation.

Going Turkish Towel Crazy at Ottomania

Irwin Weiner ASID - Nothing is better than stepping out of the shower and drying off with a beautiful "thirsty" towel. If you love fine bath linens, too, you'll be fascinated with Ottomania, a Netherlands based business (their store is shown in the photo above) born from a love of Turkey and Turkish design. Their Hammam Towels line is particularly appealing, with delicately striped leightweight towels that are perfect for beach or travel - or everyday home use. Click on the photos for more information.

Is It Possible to Love Shower Doors?

Irwin Weiner ASID - Is it possible to love shower doors? Absolutely, positively YES! The folks at Alumax created their Designer Series, and there are some beautiful alternatives to the single-hinged, open-close shower doors of years ago. I'm particularly enamored with the Pipeline line. 

Pipeline is an in-line dual roller system that allows a heavy glass door - straight or curved or custom shape - to effortlessly and smoothly open and close with the touch of a finger. I like the industrial, steampunk-y design and it's a breakthrough design solution to shower doors. Minimal cost, fabulous design. Note: check with any door manufacturer to see if they treat or coat the glass in their doors so they don't get damaged by the water; sometimes chemicals and hard water can damage - etch - the glass (you'll see white scaling that's hard to get off on your glass).
