Weird Science: Technology Creates Home Goods of the Future

Irwin Weiner ASID - It's important to innovate in any field, avoid stagnation. Technology, like a breath of fresh air, is delivering amazing new home goods, and it's breathtaking to see where the industry is heading. Take the innovative team behind Dutch Invertuals. They're exhibiting new goods all the time. The following video shows you three of their amazing interfaces between technology and interior design: Raw Colors produces light-sensitive fabrics (but instead of fading in sunlight, the fabrics get darker); Jon Stam created a cabinet with drawers on one side and engraved bar codes on the back that can be tagged with a SmartPhone to view video archives (imagine recording your own family archives and having them preserved as part of your furniture; how's that for provenance!); and EDHV records the paths that ants travel as they roam over the model of a chair to map out startling new lines for prototype seating, i.e., seating made by insects.
