Artist Romare Bearden: 100th Anniversary

Jay Johnson - Design2Share salutes artists who contribute to, as we call it, the "great design of life." 2011 (September 2nd, to be precise) marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Romare Bearden. To call him an important African-American artist and writer would be too limiting; he was a great artist and writer. Honest. Non-sentimental. Evocative. Colorful. Dazzling. All these words describe his work, done in various media, from oils and colored pencils to his beloved collage. We enjoyed this Wide Iris Productions video on Bearden's life story, Southern roots, and the Romare Bearden Foundation. And you'll also want to revisit Design2Share's exclusive video interviews with Russell Goings, Bearden friend and collector, and see some of his amazing works close up and personal.
