1970s Love In

Here's a great New Year's Resolution: let's add some sexiness to our home decor! One way to bring sexy back is with pieces like this ultra-hip Olive Burlwood Coffee Table We like to take the pulse of the antique and collectible furniture market with industry spokesman George Evans, the entrepreneur behind Bond & Bowery, a great online resource for antiques and fine art, and he thought this stylish modern furniture piece would do just the trick.

Design2Share: What caught your attention about this coffee table, George?

George: The materials are not common at all. I like the combination of olivewood and nickel bands and smoked glass. They were so “right on” for a period 1970s coffee table! Also, you have to appreciate the generous size of this piece. Measuring 51” wide and almost 30” deep, it will anchor any room.

D2S: What's desirable about this piece, and why do you think it has appeal for homeowners?

George: The untouched condition and the rare wood really make this piece stand out from your typical '70s coffee table. It's clear to me that this model was definitely a limited production piece, making it even more appealing and collectible.

D2S: Where would you think our readers could decorate with this coffee table?

George: My first thoughts on using this piece would be to place it vertically in front of the fireplace with two love seats facing in. Use it in front of any sofa. This would also be fabulous in a media room, with plenty of room to spread out books, magazines, a plate of food, and a glass of wine. What a way to enjoy an evening at home!

This table comes from Bond and Bowery dealer Trebor / Nevets from Long Beach, CA. They note that this coffee table is a variation of an “Italian design,” but it was made in the USA. It's another good example of a well-priced, authentic high-style vintage piece of furniture from Bond and Bowery that will add a lot to the Sexy/Hip Quotient in any home.
