We found the best way ever to watch football games and Dancing With the Stars in absolute comfort! You could own this mid-century modern lounger and ottomon and be the perfect couch potato in tufted, wavy comfort. Antique and fine art industry spokesman George Evans showcases for us something new and different that would be a great addition to anyone's home design scheme. He spent the last 20 years importing and exporting antiques and fine design pieces from Europe. He's a New York City dealer and also has two showrooms in Lambertville, New Jersey. His most exciting enterprise, however, is Bond & Bowery, a great online resource for antiques and fine art (and you must check out the site's new look and design!). George just chose something great for us: a Bruno Mathsson Lounger and Ottomon by Dux.
Design2Share: What are the unique features of this furniture duo, George?
George: We were excited when we found this set! It's a 1970s lounger complete with ottoman, and often the chair and ottoman are separated. It’s a find to acquire both pieces at once.
D2S: In your opinion, what makes them collectible or desirable?
George: It’s a fully signed set of furniture by Bruno Mathsson who had his international breakthrough as a furniture designer at the 1937 Paris World's Fair. The Swede's furniture stirred up immediate international interest and enthusiasm. He was represented at the Museum of Modern Art in New York when it opened in 1939 and at the Fair in San Fransisco that same year. So this designer is hot, and when we find a complete set of his work, we want to make special note to potential buyers. These lovely pieces come to us from Bond and Bowery dealer Hudsons Estate Gallery in Oakland, CA.
D2S: Where would you decorate with Mathsson's pieces?
George: I see them in a living room or den. When they're not in use, the pieces will add an element of architecture and sculptural quality to an interior. Put these in a media room, family room, or den for TV watching or make them the center of a reading nook in the bedroom. I wouldn’t separate the two pieces as they are amazing as a set.
