Cape Town

Table Mountain provides a dramatic backdrop to Cape Town's bustling waterfront attractions. What's a Trippy?

It's a short visual trip to places of architectural or design importance.

Where are we going?

We just returned from a visit to Cape Town, South Africa, and we'd like to share some of our architecture and design finds with you.

What's to see?

Beautiful colonial British, French, and Dutch architecture, incredible art deco buildings, graceful tree-lined streets, and dramatic oceanside condos and developments that echo Miami Beach, all in one of the world's most amazing natural settings, with Table Mountain, Devil's Peak, and Signal Hill providing a backdrop for shutterbugs, parasailers, and hikers.

O Christmas Trees

A Christmas tree grows in Brooklyn.

What's a Trippy?

It's a short visual trip to places of architectural or design importance.

Where are we going?

We're going all around the world to look for great, classic, important Christmas trees.

What's to see?

Beautiful public squares, colorful lights, civic pride, and holiday spirit, sometimes with a heaping side order of schmaltz. The debate rages on about whether or not it's right to cut down a huge evergreen tree, but just ask Christmas tree farmers, and they'll tell you how their cash crop is a renewable, fast-growing resource. We must admit that we've never smelled anything quite so refreshing and nostalgic as a fresh-cut pine tree. Happy holidays!

Lovely tree and public square in Bad Reichenhall, Germany.

Rio de Janeiro combined this public tree with a fireworks-filled sky.

All decked out in Amsterdam.

Calgary's Olympic Plaza and city hall are alight with lovely holiday trees.

Bustling passage in The Hague, Netherlands, with holidays halls.

All-white tree and angels in 1954's Rockefeller Center, NYC.

The holidays are merry at Faneuil Hall in Boston.
