Jay Johnson - High school reunions are often glum and wooden affairs. I skipped my 40th reunion, but gave my life update to the reunion organizers so they could put together their booklet for the class.

Imagine my surprise when I connected with Las Vegas based Lorie Zirbes. She and I didn't know each other in high school (Class of 1970, Clinton High School, Clinton, IA), but she contacted me from my profile information.

Performance Art: Shifting Land & Architecture

If you're at all concerned with how sterile our streets and neighborhoods have become, then the antidote is the work of conceptual artist Mary Ellen Carroll. She is doing some real-life ground shifting performance art that will "make architecture perform." On October 8, she's rotating a Houston suburban 1960 house and the land it sits on by 180 degrees, all the while doing live streaming - click here for her live stream site. 

David Joselit, Yale University, Carnegie Professor, History of Art, Modern Art and Culture, stated:  

Mary Ellen Carroll practices land art in the city in her prototype 180 where she projects a figure as powerful as Robert Smithson’s Spiral Jetty onto the Houston suburbs: a house that has been lifted with its slab and rotated while looking out at the surrounding neighborhood from each of its facades with a permanent digital feed. This is art that is zoned for life.
