Great Idea for Recycling Plastic Dinnerware!

Irwin Weiner ASID - Don't you love it when people make something creative and clever? I thanked my lucky stars when I came across the following video featuring the collaboration between recycling artist Sayaka Ganz and kinetic sculptor Jim Merz.

These two creative and clever souls who recycled plastic dinnerware and created kinetic light sculptures, entitled Luminariales 2.

The Bright Future of Lighting: Charles Loomis

Irwin Weiner ASID - When home goods are created by true artists, we all have cause to celebrate. In a recent trip to The Bright Group showroom at the New York Design Center, I was struck by the incredible sculptural beauty of their Charles Loomis lighting line. First, let me say that it's smart for Bright to carry product lines with an ethos similar to their in-house Bright Chair line: lines created primarily in America that are manufactured with skilled craftsmanship, artistry, responsibility, and one-of-a-kind attention.

The Organza Pendant in the top photo, is a great example of that ethos in action. Loomis is the artist and master craftsman of his own line. He based the overall design of this piece on his daughter's wedding gown, and his kiln-formed diffusers (in blue glass version above) mimic the diaphonous gown she wore when he gave her away. A father's love for his daughter became a craftsman's inspiration, and that is precisely the kind of story I want to tell a client who's looking for a new light fixture! The piece has passion and vision, and that will help me convey its ultimate value. 5 Favorite Naked Bulb Lighting Favorites

(Edison bulbs)Janet Ramin - When was the last time you looked at a bare light bulb? You’re probably thinking – ho hum …boring! But have you seen these light bulb beauties? Have you noticed lately that in many public spaces such as restaurants and cafes, the trend in lighting is showing off the bare bulb with a pared down housing fixture.

In our photo above, restaurant Lillie-Q is lighting their bar with paired Edison bulbs that display the golden filament inside. Niche Modern uses tubular Edison bulbs in their Spark Chandelier below. Both light fixtures exude that warm golden glow reminiscent of the old-fashioned candelabras but without the fire hazard! You can find Edison light bulbs at Restoration Hardware.

(Chandelier from Lindsey Adelman)The chandelier above from Lindsey Adelman also uses Edison bulbs but they are housed in clear hand-blown glass globes. The glass housing adds more substance to the light without detracting from the golden bulbs inside.
