New York's "Naked Hotel" Boasts Addictive Video-Screen Elevator

Jeff Goldberg / Ennead Architects

Irwin Weiner ASID - With the slight tilt to the two angled planes of NYC's fab Standard Hotel and the floor-to-ceiling glass windows in each room, guests need to watch how they trot around in their rooms! Many a passerby on the amazing High Line park (a converted elevated railway track) has gotten a glimpse of nude guests toweling off as they admire their room views, unaware that they're also added to the city's scenic interest. Adding to the amazing architecture from Ennead Architects, the Standard boasts elevators with LDS-trip video displays; come see MoCo Loco video of the experience.

Staying at Hotel Le Corbusier

Irwin Weiner ASID - I've always wanted to go to Marseilles, France to look more closely at some of the magnificent signature concrete buildings designed and executed by Le Corbusier. And haven't I been using my Design2Share bully pulpit over the years to decry sterile "hotel style" for homes as being too devoid of personality? Mr. Garcia's spaces are major exceptions to that rule, and he has

Hawaiian Hotel Splendor

Voyages Destination

Irwin Weiner ASID - Cabin fever is setting in - I who am more used to my native, sunny Cape Town than frosty Manhattan - so I naturally gravitate towards warm-weather videos for design inspiration these days. And who wouldn't! We all loved this Traditional Home video, with their lucky style editor, Krissa Rossbund, staying in the fabulous Royal Hawaiian resort. It's been refurbished for the umpteenth time since the "Pink Palace" first opened its doors in 1927 - in the grandeur of Rudolph Valentino, no less. The handcrafted furniture and colorful island quilts in their upgraded Royal Beach Tower is the height of classic sophistication.
