TV Interior Design on the Set of Ringer

Living Room from RingerJanet Ramin - The last time I discussed one of TV’s most beautiful interiors - a loft-style apartment found on the set of Bones - I discovered another gorgeous interior on the set of Ringer, a television show about double identities and murder, starring Sarah Michelle Geller.

Ringer is set in a New York City high-rise apartment, and thanks to the design skills of Steven Wolff, it’s a feast for the eyes. Drawing upon the background of the storyline, Wolff created a very elegant and sophisticated design for New York socialites Siobban and Andrew Martin’s home. For the living room, Wolff started with a lively striped-pattern fabric (seen in the settee above) and took those colors of cream, wine, and ochre and extrapolated them, applying the colors to the rest of the spacious living room. The space has a mix of oversized, comfy seating as well as the more formal lines of the settee and armchairs. Creamy marbles – found in the console table on the right and the coffee table – give the room its luxurious feel.

Wolff contrasted this bright living room with the darker setting of the den for the husband, Andrew Martin. The den has a more masculine feel – with chocolate walls and brown-pattern and burgundy upholstered seating. The furniture is an eclectic mix of

Wisteria: Contemporary Swivel Chair

Irwin Weiner ASID - I love junk mail - and there's nothing "junky" about the convenience of shopping for home goods through a mailorder catalog. My mailbox is always filled with posts from companies hawking their wares, and these six items happened to catch my eye this week. Click on each photo for more product information. Happy shopping, and remember that the start of spring means it's time to freshen up your interiors.

Decorating Video: How to Set Up Your Baby's Nursery

Irwin Weiner ASID - To quote Gone With the Wind, "I don't know nothin' 'bout birthin' no babies" - but as an interior designer, I've set up more than my fair share of nurseries for my expecting clients. In today's featured video from PB Kids, you'll learn how to create a nursery, select high-quality and durable key pieces, and keep in mind the needs of growing children; that means, it's nice to have furnishings that grow with the advancing ages and stages of your child. Other helpful hints from PB Kids:

  • The crib is the most important piece in your baby's room. Select cribs that will eventually convert to toddler beds.
  • Look for dressers with toppers that transform the pieces into changing tables. Once your baby is older, lift off the topper and you've got the more age-appropriate stand-alone dresser.
  • You also need a bookcase or a storage case in the nursery. Use it for books, baby toys, storage tubs and baskets, and the start of your child's library. The library shelf is the perfect core for a cozy reading corner when your child is older.

2 Videos Highlighting Toronto Interior Design Show 2012

Irwin Weiner ASID - The Toronto Interior Design Show 2012 this January saw a resurgence in up-north style that spanned the globe. We were impressed with the imaginative use of shipping containers, with designers and studios turning them into living spaces (see above, from Mason Studio, Toronto), and the room that Piero Lissoni designed (see below, the show's official international guest of honor - what do you think of the bookshelf with books spine-in, showing off pages; it's a look!).

The official show overview video is directly above ... and delightful interior design blogger Kat Bell of Kat Bell Designs visited the show and took the video highlight reel (below) of some of the sights, designs, and innovative products that made an impression on her.
