Super-Small Apartment Fits Extra-Large Design Features

Irwin Weiner ASID - In Friday's post I shared with you my addiction to SPACEStv. They're a YouTube channel devoted to interior design videos, and there's a wide variety of programs to watch. One is called "Tiny Eclectic Amazing Spaces," and it combines my love for space planning, organization, and eclectic decorating. There are some nifty tricks that are featured in today's design video, all ways to combine sleeping, living, and work into one room (although where is the kitchen and eating area?).
"London bachelor chic" is the look here, and it works; manly, rugged design, skull artwork, steampunk-y hardware, and black walls all add to the "We're All Guys Living Here" look. What do you think? (Click on either of the photos above for an interview with Bill Indursky, who put the look together along with his boyfriend. Bill's the founder of VandM.com, - Vintage and Modern - a fantastic web resource for vintage furnishings and stylish home decor.)

Still Time to Visit the 2012 Hampton Designer Showhouse

Irwin Weiner ASID - Showhouses are fun to visit. Come on, admit it! Each room is a POP of color, a DARING experiment, something FRESH, and GLAMOUR up to the gills. Unlike your home or mine, a showhouse is meant to be theatrical, with each room's design team trying to visually and viscerally hit you between the eyes. And best of all, showhomes are meant to be specatator sports: "Oh, I love that bed." "Isn't that hideous?!" "We could do that in our home." "What were they thinking?" "Wow!"

As a showhouse veteran, I can tell you that designers put their hearts and soul into staging a good show (and it costs designers a great deal of time and money as well), all to raise funds through sponsorships and ticket and merchandise sales for good causes. So please do attend the 2012 Hampton Designer Showhouse this year - running through Labor Day Weekend - and enjoy today's featured video house tour of the 2011 home.

Fresh Creations from Jarrod Lim Design, Singapore

Koi ChairIrwin Weiner ASID - Formerly a designer with Patricia Urquiola's iconic studio in Milan, Australian born, now Singapore resident Jarrod Lim has had a distinguished career in creating products that capture a fresh international vibe. Look at his Koi Chair in these top photos; daring, sculptural, and playful, the piece demands attention and makes a clean statement in any room. There's an Asian zen about the chair, yet it has an anything-but-calm energy. And when the light shines through, the shadows really dance! Here are some other designs to admire from this young design star. Click on each photo for more information.

Bunny Williams Video: Eclectic Decor Shopping in Belgium

Bunny Williams: Treillage Retail Store
Irwin Weiner ASID - Bunny Williams is one of my all-time favorite designers. Her eye for design is unerring, and she mixes it up like no other interior designer in the business today. I can't get enough of eclectic design, but it takes skill to make a mash-up of styles and periods work well together - and she pulls it off beautifully. In today's featured video, Bunny is whisked away on a shopping trip by Susan Feldman of One Kings Lane.
I learned from this video that the dealers in Belgium poke around for treasures in nearby countries, so you can get a good mix of styles and different national takes on design, all in one place. For eclectic shoppers like you or me, that's a great tip (Thank you, Bunny!). Check out One Kings Lane for their well curated home goods sales; you're sure to find special pieces to help complete your design scheme. And a must-shop experience is to be had at Treillage, Bunny and John Rosselli's great antiques and home goods store online (and also brick-and-mortar retail stores) - and check out Bunny's BeeLine collections for distinctive home goods, furniture, and accessories.
