Rory Dobner Gifts at Maison 24

Irwin Weiner ASID - At the end of the recent New York Home Observer reception, we were all given the usual swag bags to take with us, and one of the complimentary gifts was a Rory Dobner Notable Notebook - a quirky moleskin-type notebook featuring a fish smoking an elegant cigarette. The notebook was compliments of Rory and Maison 24, a wonderful gift shop located in Manhattan at 470 Park Avenue. As you can see from the photo below, they have a complete Rory Dobner store-within-a-store boasting a complete line of home accessories featuring Rory's quirky artwork. They have an online store, too, and you can click here to peruse your way through their fascinating online shop.

Historic Homes Travel Destination: Savannah, Georgia

Irwin Weiner ASID - We hope you and your family had a wonderful Wednesday July 4th celebration! We took a brief day off at Design2Share from our daily regimen of home design posts, but we're back on the 5th with a short movie featuring the author of the record best-selling book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (and the Clint Eastwood movie) that put Savannah, GA and the amazing Mercer Williams House (see top photo) on the international map. The mansions and 19th century homes in this city speak for themselves - this is an exquisite place to visit if you're in love with gardens, parks, boulevards, grand trees, southern cooking, and beautiful homes. Enjoy today's featured video and do visit Savannah if y'all haven't already!

Humane Hunting Trophies: Mock Animal Heads for Wall Decor

Deer, courtesy of C.G. SparksJanet Ramin - Hunting trophies – if you've ever shuddered at the thought of them but you still wanted to create that hunting lodge look in your home - then I have the animal-friendly alternative for you. Cardboard Safari and C.G. Sparks have brought to life popular wild creatures without raising the ire of animal lovers.

Designers at Cardboard Safari use lasers to precision-cut recycled cardboard. Then they layer them to create these modern, minimalistic three-dimensional heads. Cardboard Safari offers an array of bulls, longhorns, rams, deer, and moose to hang.

For those who want a more colorful choice, C.G. Sparks uses rope taxidermy to recreate their heads. Michael Hennessey, co-owner, says that they use recycled cotton fabric from India to twist into coils of rope. The rope is then wrapped around the hand-formed heads.  In the first photo above, we have a blue and brown coated deer. Other choices include an elephant and lion.
