Triple Threat Deborah Buck Combines Design, Collectibles, and Art

Irwin Weiner ASID - If you're in Manhattan, visit Deborah Buck at her Madison Avenue store. If you're not, check out her beautiful book, Tableau, and you can see her handy online inventory, on her Buck House website and in her 1st Dibs store. A client of mine recently gave me a copy of her book and a catalog of her artwork, and I must say, her design eye and artistic sense is impressive.
In Tableau, Deborah creates tablescapes and arrangements of collectibles, antiques, and found objects, then summons her artistic muse and creates art and wallpaper designs from an element within the tableau. Click on any photo spread from her book to learn more about Tableau, and visit the Deborah Buck website for decor and merchandise.

Paris Concept Store Hones in on Contemporary Design

Irwin Weiner ASID - About ten days ago, Jay and I explored MERCI, a Parisian shopping concept store that provided a fresh and startling mix of new and used merchandise, but the merchandise extended into categories like fashion, home accessories and furnishings, kitchen and bath, and books - and some great all-natural foods and a fresh take on the bistro scene. My Little Paris, a blog we love when it comes to one of our favorite cities, describes the store as follows.

Welcome to MERCI, a store which is lovely, lovable and loving. It’s located in a majestic, sun-lit loft where you can browse from room to room just like in a real house. Stop and look through an old-fashioned trunk spilling over with unique creations and finally find that little dress nobody else has yet to wear! Don’t forget to buy a tiny bunch of roses at the flower shop, and cuddle up on a sofa in the book corner as you check out the latest literary sensation and sip a well-earned lemonade. You’re not going to believe this, but you’ll be raising money! The profits the store makes on your purchases are donated to charities.

Charitable donations - count us in! We love to shop responsibly, and this was a great way to make our purchases count. So what about the home design scene at MERCI? Big thumbs up all around. We thought the collection of home goods was amazingly well curated. One-of-a-kind architectural and antique finds cuddle up playfully with some truly hip and beautiful furnishings. Here are a few examples; click on each photo for more information, and sign up for MERCI's newsletter so you can enjoy their upcoming online shopping experience.

8 Great Home Goods I Love from Global Views

Irwin Weiner ASID - The future of the interior design industry may very be in the hands of showroom companies like Global Views. Their style quotient is extremely high, they do not customize so "what you see is what you get" (sometimes design clients have difficulty making up their minds, but if an item isn't customizable, then they either love it and get it or move on), and the prices are extremely reasonable. That's a triple-threat killer combination that puts GV on the road to world domination in the industry. Here are some of the items my clients and I are loving. Click on any photo for more information about the item.

Stay Current with Online Shopping Obsession Sites

Irwin Weiner ASID - I first heard from my in-the-know clients about four addictive, members-only web sites for luxury fashion and home goods. The concept is simple: publish impulse-flash sales at a specific time of day or send out sale alerts to your members that they can scoop up substantial discounts on hand-picked, staff curated luxury goods. You can't lose if you love high fashion and bargains, but many members report feeling left out if they don't take advantage of specific sales.

These kitchen items were on sale at Rue La La in May 2011.

There's
no buyer's remorse if you make a purchase and respond quickly - and these sites have apps for tablets, SmartPhones, and android devices so you're constantly getting pinged. One of my clients told me about great artwork for her daughter's room wall that we could get on one of these sites. Another told me about a
Blu Dot furniture sale on another.

Check out
Gilt (the following video shows the buzz about their hot site), Rue La La, Fab.com,
and Ideeli.
