I looked into Danny Kennedy and his new business, Sungevity. The former Greenpeace activist is now actively calling on all homeowners to Solar-Up your home. His company has the software to estimate how effective a specific number of solar panels will be to power your home, and with a US Bank homeowners loan, you can install solar panels on your roof for roughly half the cost of materials and labor, enjoy the energy savings "off the dirty energy grid," and pay back your energy loan in easy installments.

Charlotte Moss and Jonathan Adler Video: Basics of Traditional Style

Irwin Weiner ASID - It's great fun to see the work of two very different interior designers juxtaposed in a dynamic conversation about the foundations for classic, traditional home style. In this Traditional Home video, the great Charlotte Moss (I just saw you crossing Park Avenue two weeks ago with your two assistants - you were beating the street in sandals and a so-chic dress!) and the witty and talented Jonathan Adler (just browsed in your store in, of all places, Minneapolis - you are everywhere, sir!) discuss the basics of traditional style.

What you'll take away from this video, among other things, is a sense that "traditional" or "classic" style is a springboard for expressing fresh creativity. It's modern pieces, bold colors, updated and sometimes startling fabrics on classic furniture pieces - like a Louis chair, and symmetrical, traditional furniture layouts. I enjoyed watching the banter between two fascinating interior designers, and enjoyed how samples of their own rooms were used to illustrate their talking points.

Historic Homes Travel Destination: Savannah, Georgia

Irwin Weiner ASID - We hope you and your family had a wonderful Wednesday July 4th celebration! We took a brief day off at Design2Share from our daily regimen of home design posts, but we're back on the 5th with a short movie featuring the author of the record best-selling book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (and the Clint Eastwood movie) that put Savannah, GA and the amazing Mercer Williams House (see top photo) on the international map. The mansions and 19th century homes in this city speak for themselves - this is an exquisite place to visit if you're in love with gardens, parks, boulevards, grand trees, southern cooking, and beautiful homes. They have an excellent selection of books and sidelines that are outstanding, and here are some of the titles that really caught our eye while we were browsing through their tremendous stock.
