Irwin Weiner ASID - Victorian furniture and architecture is quirky and fun. I love to collect random pieces and sprinkle them into my overall decor and tabletop. The quality that jumps out at me with Victoriana is the handmade, handcrafted quality of the pieces. Some pieces are so bizarre, they make me wonder who made them. Sadly, many modern pieces put me to sleep and I never wonder which machine turned out one piece after another. The Steampunk movement - or we've been hearing it called Modern Victorian lately! - imagines what life would have been like if the Information revolution had occurred 100 years earlier. It would have been a world where Jules Verne novels come to life. This video show you what we love about Modern Victoriana. Rainer Mutsch's Dune

This video is positively hypnotic. It captured our imagination because it's one of those rare examples of how the complete manufacturing cycle of a piece of furniture can be a fascinating and "Wish I could have thought of that!" process. Designer Rainer Mutsch created his Dune line of outdoor furniture from sheets of 100% recyclable fiber cement. The video shows how these panels are molded and transformed into seating.

There are now ten candle on Dwell Media's birthday cake, and we helped celebrate by interviewing Publisher and President Michela O'Connor Abrams at the Hafele showroom, all part of the festivities surrounding ASID NY Metro Chapter's 2010 Design Walk.

Michela shares her vision for Dwell and the home design industry, giving her updates on Dwell's future, the importance of technology, and some exciting forays into television, conventions, and other media.
