Irwin Weiner ASID - It's challenging to take buildings from a past era and
convert to present-day use. There are
safety issues (asbestos, anyone?),
accessibility codes for open access of a public space to all people, and
aesthetic dangers (modernizing may obliterate or remove treasured period details). The
Art Deco Society of New York is raising awareness of the deco treasures in and around our community, and hats off to
Kathryn Hausman and her fellow members for fighting the good fight. We found a video on a proposed repurposing of an existing art deco theater in Brooklyn to a modern music and performance space called
Roulette. What do you think of their renovation plans?
