Irwin Weiner ASID - I'm all for turning wasted space into something comfortable and livable - but a pigeon coop? Literally perched on top of a Barcelona building, this tiny space was reclaimed by Austrian photographer Christian Schallert, and architect Barbara Appolloni shows how his apartment "works" in the following video. The space was inspired by the ingenuity of Japanese living spaces and boat interiors, with kitchen appliances, closets, TV, and storage built into the wood-paneled central wall of the apartment, and a nifty bed pulls out from a balcony space. Ingenious. Read the whole story here. House Beautiful's July/August 2010 issue is on my desk right now, and its cover story was "Is Small THE NEW BIG?" In this case, it most certainly is!
