Irwin Weiner ASID - Westport, CT interior designer Katy Cleare has a signature motto: "It's all in the details!" So when we were invited into her kitchen and admired her beautifully stained and painted wood floor, she took us through the fascinating steps that led to the details she was looking for. Our featured video shows off Katy's flooring, and you'll note two things. One: kitchens don't need to have a tile, linoleum, or similar flooring product. If you're a good housekeeper and exercise minimal maintenance, you can seal a beautiful wood floor and call it a day. (If that's the warm look you're going for in your kitchen/great room space.) Two: you can distress the wood with a blowtorch to open up the grain and add beautiful antiquing (see the photo above for a blowtorched wooden tabletop before it's sanded and stained; click on the photo or the link for how-to instructions). Design2Share will be running a six-post series on Katy's Kitchen, so stay tuned for Part 5 on Monday, with lots of the designer's tips and inspiration!
KATY'S KITCHEN DECORATING TIP: "The Ad Notam mirrored televisions are perfect for installing above the kitchen cooktop, in the backsplash - and they're ideal for bathrooms, too. They're really cool because they can be glossy black when the TV is off, and you don't have to take up counter or wall space. You can customize the mirror glass and shapes, and choose different sizes of television screens and stereo accessories."
